Our Journey to the Isle of Skye follows the River Ness and Loch Ness
Inverness Castle & River Ness
Set off from the heart of Inverness to the Isle of Skye with a view of Inverness Castle. As we venture away from Inverness to the Isle of Skye, we travel across the country, passing the River Ness, taking in some of Scotland’s most beautiful and famous places en route.

The Famous Loch Ness
We begin the journey from Inverness to the Isle of Skye travelling down the mysterious Loch Ness, home of the Loch Ness Monster. As we travel down Loch Ness you have wonderful views of Urquhart Castle. And then why not look out for other wildlife along the way and perhaps spot some deer, wild goats, an osprey or an eagle! Why not stop and “say hello” to Morag, Mhairi and the rest of the Highland Cows in the gang?
Glen Shiel & Eilean Donan Castle
As we part ways with Loch Ness, we discover the emotive and atmospheric Glen Shiel where a Jacobite battle was fought against the British Government in 1719. As we pass through Glen Shiel on the road from Inverness to the Isle of Skye, we are rewarded with stunning views of the legendary and dramatic peaks of the Five Sisters of Kintail. Just before we reach our crossing to the Isle of Skye we can take in the world-famous and extremely photogenic 13th century Eilean Donan Castle.
Your Isle of Skye tour continues over the Skye bridge...
Skye Bridge
We then cross onto the Isle of Skye to take in some of the most breath-taking scenery and landscapes which have gained the Isle of Skye its notoriety all over the world. Even our crossing to the Isle of Skye is something to behold as we will be crossing over the beautifully designed Skye Bridge, which opened in 1995, connecting the Isle of Skye with the mainland.
Cuillin Mountain Range
Enjoy travelling through the Cuillin Mountain Range and take in the dramatic and ever changing backdrop so heavily influenced by the unpredictability of the Isle of Skye weather (so warm and waterproof clothing/footwear is a good idea just in case!)
The Old Man of Storr
After lunch, we continue on to gaze upon the Trotternish peninsula, where volcanic activity has left mesmerising natural landmarks on the Isle of Skye. See the impressive Old Man of Storr, where you can learn about the giant’s love story…
Portree
Visit the picturesque harbour town of Portree, and perhaps enjoy some wonderfully fresh seafood for lunch in one of the amazing Portree restaurants. As part of this Skye tour from Inverness, you will be able to walk along the 19th century pier designed by one of Scotland’s most renowned Civil Engineers, Thomas Telford. And with that marks the beginning of the return journey along the road from Inverness to the Isle of Skye – another opportunity to sit back in our tour bus and relax to the beautiful views.
