Speyside - The home of single malt whisky distilleries...
Speyside, the home of single malt whisky, boasts the greatest concentration of distilleries in Scotland. The abundance of pure spring water and fertile lands (thanks to the River Spey) makes the region rich in natural ingredients. This is a great starting point for producing the finest single malt whisky, and an even better place for us to start our tour!
Our Speyside distillery day tour from Inverness will first visit Glen Moray Distillery in Elgin, which has been producing malt whisky since 1897. Enjoy a tasting of their recently launched Elgin Heritage range, comprising of a 12, 15 and 18 year old single malt.
The finest malt in Scotland
Next, we travel through the glorious and lush Spey Valley countryside, passing the sprawling golden barley fields on our whisky trail. We'll take a tour at Glen Grant Distillery, established in 1840 in the hamlet of Rothes. Enjoy a wee dram or two (or three) of the finished product in the tasting room/visitors centre, before taking a stroll through the beautiful distillery gardens.
After some lunch in the picturesque town of Aberlour (home of Walkers shortbread), our Speyside tour and whisky tasting continues to the world renowned Aberlour Distillery Shop. Not too far away, we find Glenfarclas Distillery, where we stop for a tasting in the ambiance of the distillery’s beautiful and unique “ship’s room”. Finally, but by no means least, we conclude our Speyside single malt whisky tour at Benromach Distillery, one of the smallest distilleries producing in Scotland. In recent times, this distillery has gone from strength to strength, producing sensational award winning single malts, "beautifully balanced with a wisp of smoke, Benromach classic single malts bring back the unique taste of Speyside whisky almost lost forever".
